Before getting started, I would like to introduce myself and some aspects of how this blog will be managed.
My name is Fernando de Miguel. I was born in the United States but I was raised in Pamplona, Spain. I studied a 5-years degree in Biochemistry at the University of Navarra and later a master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology in Madrid, Spain. After achieving my master's degree, I came back to Pamplona where I coursed my Ph.D. thesis about the molecular biology of lung cancer in the Center for Applied Medical Research. I currently continue studying lung cancer as a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University in New Haven, CT.

A few months ago, hanging around Facebook I found a post from an ex-classmate who mentioned an article about an alleged "anti-cancer" diet. A quite intense started around the topic of the article in which there were all kinds of comments from different people, from researchers of the field that were raising their hands to their heads to a father of a sick child who decided to complement chemotherapy for his son with alternative natural methods. I had the chance of discussing some topics with this person and that was the final inspiration I needed to open this blog and jump into science dissemination. I always liked writing, so what could be a better topic to do it that my own job and my great passion, cancer. This blog actually started some time ago as a Spanish version, but after talking to colleagues they suggested it would be great to do it also in English. So here it is! Please forgive any grammar or spelling mistakes and feel free to correct them as English is my second language.
With this blog, I just want to offer information in a simple manner so it is understandable for everybody who is interested in this disease and how we work every single day to comprehend it, treat it and eradicate it. You will find a wide variety of posts about biomedical research in cancer, including the most basic mechanisms, advances in therapy, scientific curiosities, techniques and procedures that take place in an oncology lab, etc. In summary, very diverse topics for all audiences around one unique concept: cancer.
I would also like this blog to be a space for debate, opinion and question solving for all users. So, if you would like me to introduce, explain or deepen into a specific concept, feel free to comment. I will do my best to approach it. Similarly, if you like science dissemination and awareness and you would like to publish in this blog, do not hesitate to let me know and I will be happy to publish your post. Everyone is welcome.
This said, I just want to welcome you all and wish that you enjoy learning along with me beyond the hallmarks of cancer.
